I got really sad today because one of coworkers asked me today if she’s too thin. She said she keeps seeing all these graphics on Facebook making fun of thin girls to make fat girls feel better (“real men like curves, only dogs like bones” kind of shit) and she’s reaching a breaking point. She’s looking into checking into a hospital to help her with her eating disorders, which she’s been trying to recover from for years but her body is just rejecting food right now. She wants to be healthy so badly but everyone just throws those “you’re too thin, are you sick? Eat a cheeseburger ” kinds of crap at her and it’s horrid. Every one of those statements reminds her of how much she’s struggled with this and causes an anxiety reaction. She’s reminded that it’s visible how much more work she needs to do.
So for the sake of people like my coworker, whose story you’ll never know by looking at her, don’t rush in to tell anyone how their body should and should not look. Not even to be funny, and not with the blowhorn and shield that is the Internet.
Whelp today was probably my worst day at work ever. I think everything that could have gone wrong, went wrong. From being verbally abused by a coworker, to having the hot water tank break, to never ending lines of customers clutching giftcards in the their frozen mitts demanding frappuccinos. If the pay wasn’t so good I would’ve left ages ago and days like today make me wonder if it’s worth it.
So we have an Italian exchange student at our school. And he and I were hanging out and he saw a pony, and he tried to show me but he didn’t know what it was called so he just pointed at it and said “Look, the compressed horse.”
And then he just grinned at his complete understanding of the English language.
An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind, so that justice may remain just that.
A tooth for a tooth so that you may no longer bite the hand that feeds.
craigslist ad: looking for fellow giant baby nerd to live with me and not judge me if I spend the whole weekend in my room watching cartoons or drawing stupid things and then cry myself to sleep. Also must run errands with me sometimes so I don’t get too lonely, go to petco on sundays to look at cats (possibly adopt one), and also bake and cook with me.
also rent can’t be too much because I’m saving up for when I’m unemployed and watch cartoons and draw comics in my room full-time.
Come to Virginia, we’d be perfect! Except we’d need a dog-friendly cat.
Powdered alcohol hasn’t even arrived in stores yet, but states already are moving to ban the product touted by its inventor as an easy way to mix a drink on the go.
Colorado is the latest state considering prohibiting…
“Doesn’t have any place in our society” sounds like something from the early 20th century. Yeah alcohol on the go sounds like a terrible idea because that means it’s going to be used to be snuck into otherwise alcohol free places like movie theaters, work, or the like. A small package that can be slipped into your pocket unnoticed until added to your coke or coffee. It is dangerous. But morons abuse this kind of crap all the time and kids will guzzle cough syrup for a buzz. Heck, I had a guy tell me the other day he smokes CLOVES for that reason.
But alcohol is legal. It’s a legal, regulated substance. Yeah some kid could sprinkle palcohol on his Wheaties but the same dumbie could also pour mom’s bourbon in there. If you ban one, you might as well ban the other.
“To take from one because it is thought that his own industry and that of his father’s has acquired too much, in order to spare to others, who, or whose fathers have not exercised equal industry and skill, is to violate arbitrarily the first principle of association - the guarantee to every one of a free exercise of his industry and the fruits acquired by it.”—Thomas Jefferson (via philosophicalconservatism)
I just love how in English you say “great minds think alike”, which is a completely positive thing since you’re kinda praising yourself, but in German you go like “zwei Dumme, ein Gedanke” = “two fools, one thought”
I’ve seen doxxing ruin the lives of a few of my personal friends. One by a stalker ex, the other two because some fuckshits decided they “deserved it”.
It ruined
their
lives
And do you think the idiots on tumblr are willing to acknowledge and take responsibility for that? No. They’ll laugh and say “GOOD, FREEDOM OF SPEECH MEANS THEY CAN SAY BLAH BLAH BLAH BUT NOT THE CONSEQUENFPPPFFFBBBRRRRRRTFFFFBBBBB”
They’ll say “I don’t feel bad because they had it coming!”
“But they drew oppressive propaganda! They sort of insulted this one person I don’t know or care about but tumblr told me to be angry about it!”
My three friends had to quit their jobs, they had to delete all of their fucking social media, two of them got dumped by their boyfriends because they “didn’t want to be involved in any drama”, one of them got kicked out of their home because their father chose to believe the people calling their home accusing them of being a bigot. They almost got raped as they tried to sleep/rest overnight in a nearby bus station.
Tumblr’s obsession with doxxing as the response to someone who hurt their poor delicate little feelings, acting as judge jury and executioner because “WELL THEY DESERVE IT FOR BEING XIST”
it’s disgusting
It’s not just “doxxing”
It’s encouraging and wishing for the harassment, abuse and even potential rape and murder of the victim.
Someone tried to have me swatted. Swatting is nothing short of terrorism and, yeah I’ll say it, attempted murder. It’s literally sending armed police forces to break into the victim’s home. What happens if one of the SWAT Team members suddenly decides lethal force is required? What happens when the victim develops PTSD? What happens when the job and school you worked to get them kicked out of leads to them being suicidal?
I got off lucky because I live in such a small town and the police know my family but that isn’t how it is for everyone else.
If you’re celebrating people being doxxed it had better be someone that is irredeemably bad, and I mean REALLY fucking bad, or you’ve lost my respect. You’re not a hero. You’re not an ally of social justice. You’re not in the right.
You’re abusive and disgusting and you’ve proved how little human lives matter to you.
