Twitch Plays Pokemon is at the Elite Four. Holy crap.
Funny enough, they got there faster than I ever did when I played. Granted, I was four-years-old and they’ve been playing for nearly 16 days straight.
Oh, no wait, they already beat the Elite Four, but failed once they got to Blue. Still!! This is so exciting!

I gave it a Soothe Bell and just kept levelling it up at the Battle Chateau (because money grinding as well) and that did the trick by the time it reached level 40 (started with a level 12 Zubat, pfft). Did not know that affection and friendship were different, because I’d used affection to get Sylveons, Umbreons, and Espeons. I must’ve just gotten lucky.

My little crap Golbat on Pokemon X and Y will not evolve into a Crobat. On Pokemon Amie it has maxed out affection, but it’s gone up 12 levels since then and STILL won’t evolve. It’s currently at level 37.
I’ve never tried for a Crobat…I haven’t, no! But now I will! Thanks, I’d forgotten about that!
I’m mostly perplexed because I’ve gotten three Sylveons, two Umbreons, and an Espeon through Pokemon Amie, and this darned Golbat will fight to the death out of love for me, but heaven forbid it EVOLVES for me!

I think my favourite thing about Twitch Plays Pokemon is the reassurance that if Legion (as in the demon) existed, it would be completely fucking incapable of actually doing any real damage to humanity.
Imagine, just a demon in a human body, walking into walls, sometimes digging out the contents of its pockets, getting stuck in supermarkets, and occasionally having the crap beaten out of it by harmless animals.

So, from what I’ve heard, the fans of the game League of Legends are upset that Twitch Plays Pokemon has become more popular than LoL. Their big plan? Rally together, hack the stream, and release every single Pokemon to ruin the game. Oh, and also call everyone faggot manchildren, can’t forget that.
Now, this may seem ridiculous, but just a short while ago ABBA Jesus came very close to being released. From what I’ve seen, this guy here seems to be playing a part in rallying people to ruin the stream.
Now, I understand TPP is just a social experiment. In the long run it’s not a big deal. But what these guys are trying to do is just piss in everyone’s Coke because their game isn’t quite as popular. Purposefully releasing something out of spite isn’t the same thing as accidental releasing like what happened with Jay Leno and Abby. LoL fans out there who are angry about this, stop being so immature. Leave TPP alone unless you’re actually going to contribute. If you’re just there to troll because your little game is being ignored, I have three words for you:

UPDATE: It seems I was incorrect in my previous post. Steven Bonnell is in fact a StarCraft/Eve player. I think the LoL connection is dubious at best. However, as far as I have seen everything else I have said is correct. This guy has still knowingly attempted to ruin everyone’s fun, and he and his immature cohorts need to stop.
I think in this experiment with our pseudosociety, we can all refer to these butts as Globalization.

Left TPP alone for a while and we’re in Lavender Town but what are we doing? We obviously don’t have a primary objective right now since it’s in Anarchy mode.
I just imagine when it’s democracy mode on TPP that Red has leaden feet and the brain of a Slowpoke.

What if the “democracy/anarchy” option was the real social experiment the whole time?
What if that was the point? So that we could watch how a mass of people has to make decisions on how a program will be run to reach an end goal? How one system may not be the fastest but it is more efficient and involves less backtracking?
I actually just saw someone in the chat say “screw democracy this is so slow”.
This is it. This is the whole point.
The entire thing is a social experiment. It just so happened that we worked our way up to evolving the global level of the experiment to one where the options of democracy and anarchy systems were necessary for progress.
This. The way I see it, originally if players teamed up/worked to a common goal through the original (now called anarchy) system, it would have worked out to a sort of democracy. But the lag, overwhelming number of players, and difficulty of some tasks (Rocket maze) prevented that from happening on its own. so the democracy mode was implemented.
That said, the anarchy/democracy system created an immediate visualization of the votes either way and that is COOL. Red is sort of the mass of humanity, the chat is the people, the anarchy/democracy bar is the running visual of the peoples’ opinions over what the government mode to control humanity’s progress should be.
(Although I guess the visualization fails when one side spams start9 to further slow/halt progress in an attempt to force their hand)(Which is in itself another very interesting analogy to actual governments. Can you say FILIBUSTERING)
I agree with everything you say up until the “start9=filibustering” comparison, but even then I kind of half agree.
Filibustering was invented as a way to protect the rights of the minority party in the senate, preventing the majority from jamming through laws without any debating or compromising. By having the filibuster, it forces the majority to work with the minority to compromise. Filibustering COULD be used just to buck the system (much like how start9 is abused) when someone doesn’t have their way, but that is not why it was invented.
But yes! The natural evolution of the democracy/anarchy option is really riveting! And on a side note, the invention of the “Helix Fossil Religion” is another interesting natural development. When faced with insurmountable odds, humans almost always gravitate towards some sort of supernatural outside force that is either causing the trouble (Flareon) or blessing them (Helix Fossil). We see this with religion or even athletes and students who have special routines or lucky charms.
Maybe there will be calls for a Helix Fossil theocracy.
Also I think there should be a republic option so we can vote for people to represent our “stance” on how the game should be played and they’ll play for us. For the sake of this experiment.

Panera Bread has a pretty awesome radio station. Fleet Foxes, Mumford & Sons, Of Monsters and Men, The Lumineers, Belle & Sebastian… and they don’t just play their radio hits, either. It’s a pleasure to use their WiFi, go do it (but also buy something because y'know common decency).
This poor old guy in my local library went to a website that suddenly made a lot of noise (a sports radio station I think???) and his immediate reaction was to slam his laptop shut and blush like a little boy. BUT THAT DIDN’T SILENCE THE WEBSITE AND IT KEPT GOING SO HE KEPT SLAMMING THE LAP TOP OPEN AND CLOSED OPEN AND CLOSED BUT THAT STILL DIDN’T WORK so he just stuffed it in his briefcase and casually walked out of the building, sports radio station still blaring. I’m crying from trying not to laugh, if just to preserve his dignity.
