“Matcha Water”
I’m gonna give a short rant about this “match water for $.84″ rumor going around the internet.
If you order this and expect it to be this cheap instead of the full price of an iced tea, YOU ARE NOT PAYING YOUR BARISTA FOR THEIR LABOR. YOU ARE ADVOCATING SLAVE LABOR.
A little extreme? Let me break this down for you:
Why are Starbucks drinks priced $3-6 if some milk, a teaspoons of sweetener from a large bottle, and some coffee should only cost maybe a dollar to make in just ingredients?
Because you aren’t paying for just the drink, you are also contributing to:
1.) Your Barista’s wages
2.) The Store Operations, including, but not limited to: electricity, running water, heating and A/C, the shipping of product, the purchase of product, fixtures and furniture, machinery (a blender costs over $600 guys), taxes.
3.) Your Barista’s benefits, including health insurance.
4.) The company’s profit margin.
5.) The fact that it’s a more quality product than gas station coffee.
When spreading these costly items between the HUNDREDS of people that come in and out the door each day, it only adds to a few cents per item.
So why are add-ons so cheap, say $.84? Because you’ve already paid for all of these things and now you’re just paying for the extra product and labor.
Free water is a courtesy you should be thankful for considering water is not free to the store (gotta pay the water company workers).
So, when you come to Sbux and order this expecting to pay only $.84, you are expecting to NOT PAY YOUR BARISTA. You are trying to get out of paying for all of these things.
“But Starbucks already makes $203948203984908239084902 a second, why does it matter if I don’t pay full price???”
Would you steal a car because a car company makes a lot of money? No? It’s the same concept. It’s a financial and a MORAL issue. Why do YOU think you deserve to not pay your barista? What have YOU done to deserve free stuff?
Think you still only need to pay $.84? Okay, enjoy your slave labor sugar water.
