creature—fear:

Illustrations by Beatrix Potter from when she was in her early 20′s.
She took it upon herself to study Mycology and was not taken seriously by the scientific community for many, many years simply because she was a woman.

It’s a very interesting story with a lot more nuance than “she was a woman so they didn’t believe her,” she had a lot of support and encouragement and courage. If you’d like to read more, here’s a great article: http://www.bbc.com/earth/story/20160215-beatrix-potter-pioneering-scientist-or-passionate-amateur

Either way, she’s still one of my favorite humans.
