Born in the wild west of China, Sichuan province before the Cultural Revolution, raised with her two sibling brothers by illiterate working-class parents, Lily grew up facing poor living conditions, food rationing, Communist indoctrination, and political and social chaos under Mao’s regime. In this tumultuous environment, she quickly developed street smarts and compassion as well as the values of perseverance and hard work.

Lily received her university law degree at Fudan University in Shanghai and was a faculty member of the law school for three years.  She came over to the U.S.A. in 1988 and earned a Master’s degree at The University of Texas at Austin, School of Social Work.

Lily worked for corporations in Hong Kong and the U.S.A. as a corporate executive. Lily became a Colorado small business woman and entrepreneur in 2000.

Lily was nominated as a candidate by the Libertarian Party of Colorado in March of 2014 to run for the State of Representatives in House District 44. She is the former state chair of the Libertarian Party of Colorado and currently State Director for Our America Initiative. The Libertarian Party of Colorado unanimously nominated Lily on March 12th as the candidate for U.S. Senate. Her name will be on the ballot this November.

Don’t Look Left

once i was walking with my mom by a strip mall when I was 10 years old.

“Aella,” she said, “Don’t look to your left.”

I didn’t ask questions. I just said ‘okay’ and kept my head turned to my right. 

I kept not looking left, and we kept walking. We kept walking, and I kept not looking left. Eventually I got tired, and I asked my mom, “can I look left now?”

She burst into laughter. “Oh, I didn’t know you took me seriously! There ws just a bookstore. I know how much you like books. It was just a joke.”

And for the next several days she told everyone, proudly, the story of how well and unquestioningly i had not looked left.

everyone congratulated me on being such a good child. They ruffled my hair in admiration.
