Work sucked, gonna complain

At work today I got pulled to cashier from working the Target cafe (because half our staff called out over three inches of snow) and this lady was buying a face mask for her husband.  English was not her native language, but she was trying to tell me that her husband had some sort of allergic reaction to the last one he used and hoped it didn’t happen with this one.  However, instead of just describing the either hives or acne he broke out in, she chose to say, “like the red bumps all over your forehead”.

Now, I’m someone that has struggled with breakouts and cysts on my face for YEARS and my face had cleared up for the first time in months recently and I was feeling pretty good about my luck.  Until this woman smashed it all down.  I understand that when you’re trying to describe something to someone in a language not your own, it can be hilariously difficult, however if this is something that was an embarrassment to your husband, why would you point it out on my face?  Then keep talking about it?  And her tone was definitely condescending.

There was that lady, and then the older black gentleman that, when I didn’t immediately settle a very aggressive dispute over who got in line first between him and another man, told me how dare I stare at him with my “ugly cracker face”.  I’m staring perhaps because I’m stunned that in a civilized society you think it’s necessary to verbally assault a man that thought he’d gotten in line first.  I was so stunned I didn’t know how to react because God forbid it’s 2015 and I’m in a safe suburban area and a man I’ve never met before is threatening mine and another stranger’s life because he couldn’t order his popcorn first.  I’ve never in my life had someone threaten me like that, and I’m just really thankful Assets Protection was nearby to at least get the man to back away and leave.  Over something so stupid.

I don’t know what happened, but everyone was just ridiculously cruel today.  Not even Black Friday or Christmas Eve were guests so awful.  I’m thankful I’m getting a week vacation to live-in nanny up north because I don’t even want to think about going back in for a while now.
