ive now seen the last jedi twice, i liked it better the second go, especially how it basically said eff your tropes and burned everything down in your face.

i really liked it.

BUT!!

it had some serious narrative issues, plot holes, and just m e m e a b l e moments. and there were some parts that i think could’ve been better and more respectful (*cough* A K B A R).

im willing to put some of the issues aside though until the trilogy ends and we see how everything plays. Star Wars movies arent very good on their own, they’re better as a whole.

She’s much more hopeful than I am, and much braver than I am. For a woman who had been alone for such a long time to be so open to what’s going on, and letting journeys happen, and letting relationships happen, I think is really incredible.

Daisy Ridley.

#this might be my favourite sequence in the whole film #we have just witnessed this incredibly driven #focused and competent #young woman #work all day in the blistering heat #just to be able to afford one simple meal #she accepts the unfairness at the exchange depot with a hardened stare and a set jaw #and she does it all on her own #but THEN #then she comes home #and we see in a series of simple heartbreaking images that #not only is she alone here too and has been for some time #(the marks on the wall) #but she is still in many ways a child #the handmade doll #the helmet #she puts on that helmet and looks up at the sky and suddenly she’s six years old and you can see that in some ways #despite her hard exterior and her very adult resourcefulness #she is still that six year old child #despite the daily struggle of her existence she still hopes and plays and imagines #she’s not just capable she is STRONG #she doesn’t just survive #she lives #she collects flowers in a desert #and keeps them in a vase #i love her so much #i love this writing so much #this sequence might be my favourite bit of screenwriting of 2015 #star wars #the force awakens

Quick reminder that Luke had about five minutes of training with a lightsaber and NONE of it included actually fighting against an other opponent. Remember Ben sparring with Luke? Nope. It was just him playing around with a robot that tased him

Do you remember Yoda sparring with Luke? Nope. He was teaching him about the Force but we never saw him ONCE teaching him how to actually fight with a lightsaber. Luke had precisely ZERO experience when it came to fighting with a lightsaber.  And yet none of you said anything when Luke actually kept up with Vader and later on actually defeated Vader

Rey on the other hand spend her ENTIRE LIFE defending herself with her staff. She is very well versed in fighting with a melee weapon. But when she fought against a HEAVILY INJURED Kylo Ren you immediately cry Mary Sue and unrealistic.

Think about that. Think about what this attitude says about you.

also, it’s good to note that her fighting style looked VERY ROUGH in comparison to the elegance of Luke and the Jedi of eps 1-3.  It was savage, more like fighting with a broadsword than the old calculated and measured way of fighting.
